|Composition : ||3mg/ml, 15mg/2ml, 50mg/5ml|
|Indications : ||Leucovorin is administered to diminish the toxicity and counteract the effect of impaired methotrexate elimination and inadvertent overdosage of folic acid antagonists. Leucovorin is also indicated in combination with 5-fluorouracil to prolong survival in the palliative treatment of patients with advanced colorectal cancer.|
|Contraindications : ||Leucovorin is improper therapy for pernicious anaemia and other megaloblastic anemias secondary to lack of vitamin B12 A. haematologic remission may occur while neurologic manifestations continue to progress.|
|Safety Profile : ||Pregnancy : Should be given only if clearly indicated. |
Lactation : Caution should be exercised.
Paediatric use : Might interact with antiepileptics in children.
|Adverse Effects : ||Allergic sensitisation including urticaria and anaphylactoid reactions. Nausea, pyrexia and vomiting have been observed.|
|Drug Interactions:||Might decrease the efficacy of antiepileptic medications like phenobarbitone, phenytoin and primodone. Enhances cytotoxic effect of fluorouracil reduces methotrexate toxicity. |
|Dosage :||Dose equal to the antagonist is given within one hour and is ineffective if given after 3 hours.|
