| Indications: | Debilitating illness, postmenopausal osteoporosis, osteoporosis, conulsants after surgery, burn or major illness. Postmenopausal metastatic mammary carcinoma. |
| Clinical Uses:-: | 1. Hypogonadism: Testosterone is given for 2-3 years or until adequate sexual maturation takes place. 2. Cytorchidism ( failure of testicular descent into the scrotum): Human chorionic gonadotrophin treatment for 6 weeks of testosterone administration helps in testicular descent. 3. Androgens also enhance libido, sexual performance, and stimulate spermatogenesis. However, the use of androgens in inpotency has to be based on properassessment of endocrine deficicncy as a cause of impotency. 4. Androgens are used with verying success in premenopausal breast carcinoma in famales. 5. Androgens have also been used to treat refractory anaemias and in selected cases of osteoporosis along with oestrogens. |
| Adverse effects: | They cause fluid. Virillzation and menstrual irregulatities occur in woman. Acne and growth disturbances are seen in children. Excessive administration in males may suppress spermatogenesis and cause azoosperma. |
| Dosage: | 25 100 mg .IM weekly. Children 5-15 mg . every three week. |
