Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug with minimal gastric side effects has some selectivity for Cox-2 than Cox-1. In addition to inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis, It also reduces generation of superoxide by neutrophils, inhibits PAF synthesis, inhibits TNE and inhibits proteinase activity in cartilage, thus preventing breakdown of osteo-arthritic human cartilage.
